Inside New York City Center, From “Mecca Temple” to Performing Arts Center

Step inside New York’s first performing arts center and former home of The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine before the doors open to the public.

Join New York Adventure Club for a private tour of New York City Center, Manhattan’s first performing arts center, dedicated by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia in 1943 with a mission to make the best in music, theater and dance accessible to all audiences.

Led by the Director of Operations before New York City Center opens to the public, our unique experience will include:

  • An overview of the neo-Moorish building, from its creation as the meeting hall for members of The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in 1924 to NYC’s first performing arts center in 1943
  • A private walkthrough of its stunning lobby and hallways, and meaning behind its many murals
  • A look inside the 2,257 seat theater from multiple levels

Ticketing through The New York Adventure Club/BigMaven:

Join New York Adventure Club for a special presentation, reception, and live ghost hunting demonstration with paranormal investigators Douglas McMillan and Bess Catherine, both of who have dedicated years to studying paranormal activity with a focus on scientific methodology.

Our experience, which will take place in a haunted Gilded Age Colonnade Row apartment in Astor Place, will include:

  • A crash course on what a paranormal investigator does, and what they expect to encounter
  • An emphasis on the dangers of ghost hunting
  • An overview of the tools and equipment used on ghost hunts
  • The proper method of executing a ghost hunt
  • A live paranormal investigation demonstration proceeding the general discussion
  • How to review evidence and present findings using a scientific approach

“Mrs. Astor’s Gilded Age” Roman punch and snacks will be served throughout the evening.

About Doug McMillan

New York City native and U.S. Air Force veteran Douglas McMillan is the founder of the Bronx Paranormal Society, an organization dedicated to the scientific study of paranormal activity. Doug has performed paranormal investigations on three different continents over the past decade, and regularly gives lectures on the latest methods and techniques for aspiring ghost hunters and curious individuals alike.

    Join New York Adventure Club for a Gilded Age presentation and reception inside the landmarked Colonnade Row, also known as LaGrange Terrace, a landmarked series of Greek revival buildings originally built in the early 1830s on present-day Lafayette Street in New York City.

    Our behind-the-scenes experience inside the historic Colonnade Row apartments will focus on the construction of La Grange Terrace (Colonnade Row), the first residents who became the foundation of Victorian & Edwardian Society, and a look at New York City antebellum history, society, and architecture.

    “Mrs. Astor’s Gilded Age” Roman punch and snacks will be served throughout the evening.

After-Hours Tour @ the Fantasma Magic Houdini Museum

Tickets: $19-24

Join New York Adventure Club for an after-hours tour of Fantasma Magic’s Harry Houdini museum; a collection from owner and “Chief Wizard Officer” of Fantasma Magic, Roger Dryer, that contains nearly 200 items including the magician’s metamorphosis trunk.

Hosted by master magician Nick Padilla, who has traveled the country performing his magic since the age of 14, our experience will include an in depth look at some of the artifacts and collections inside the Houdini Museum, as well as a live performance of a variety of close up illusions.

After the tour, we’ll head to a local eatery for some food and drinks!

For April we will be reading Boulevard of Dreams: Heady Times, Heartbreak, and Hope along the Great Concourse in the Bronx by Constance Rosenblum.
